The Duncan Method - Thinking Through Dance

The text by renowned dance teacher Eva Blažíčková explains dance as a unique artistic discipline which, through teaching using the Duncan Method, can develop not only into an independent creative activity, but also positively influence the formation of a person and their relationship to the world. The author gradually introduces readers to the theoretical foundations of the Duncan Method and defines its current form, focusing on the key areas that shape it (Technique, Improvisation, Creation, The Art of Teaching). At the same time, she provides a detailed analysis of the differentiated qualities of movement. A significant part of the book is then devoted to didactic procedures and specific exercises that can be used in practice when teaching dance across age groups and types of schools. The publication is written in sensitive, poetic-philosophical language and, with its broader scope, opens up more general questions of artistic education, the quality of existence, and the values that shape human society. The whole is complemented by original drawings by the academic painter Vladimír Kokolia, which naturally accompany the reader through the landscape of Duncan's dance thinking.
