The book is a teaching material produced as part of the "Innovative Open Source Courses for Computer Science" project. It is dedicated to teachers, students and people interested in developing applications for mobile devices. It is recommended as a supplement to the teaching material for the Mobile Application Development course. The book presents basic information about developing mobile applications for Android. It first discusses free development tools that can be used to create and test Android applications. The following chapters gradually introduce the essential components of an Android application, such as activities, services, receivers and content providers. Methods, procedures and APIs for creating simple applications are presented. The work shows snippets for UI design. Later, the necessary information about navigation between components is provided, and the MVVM architectural pattern is introduced. It also describe! s using sensors and internet connections and maintaining data, including using SQL databases (ROOM framework). The book includes numerous examples in the Kotlin language concerning examples on the web. Knowledge of object-oriented programming is required as well as an understanding of the basics of the Kotlin language.
