The world is changing in an unexpected direction. Globalization encountered several barriers, which resulted in de-globalization tendencies. The COVID-19 pandemic added to the Green Deal. This was followed by Russian aggression against Ukraine, which, among other things, accentuated the energy crisis. We are witnessing increased migration to European countries. While major world centres played a decisive role in globalization, de-globalization emphasizes local, regional, national and European resources. Issues such as climate change, food security, renewable energy sources, gender, or cultural tourism are coming to the fore. This was also reflected in rural development which provides space for many of the above-mentioned activities. At the same time, the countryside itself is undergoing structural changes from intensive agriculture to tourism and other services. Individual European rural regions respond to these changes by thei! r potential.
